This website will be closing.
During lockdown Jo had to make changes to the classes she runs. She also decided to give information all in one place rather than using this separate website for classes she runs at The Rose & Crown.

Here is a copy of a letter I emailed to all course members on saturday 4th July 2020
4th July 2020
Dear Rose and Crownies
I really am missing you. If I was not seeing some of you on Zoom I know I would be completely lost.
Running classes at the Rose & Crown has always been very satisfying for me because I see you all transforming so much quicker than I see in my bigger classes and I get to know you all well. You truly have become good friends to me.
I would dearly love things to return to normal and get back to The Rose & Crown asap with all of you there. Hopefully one day that will be possible.
Following the last government announcement my business unfortunately falls into the list of businesses that are still not permitted to open on the 4th July.
As of yet no possible date has been mentioned, however I'm following all updates and hope to get some clarity soon.
I think it is likely that I will be able to return to St Anselm's and The Rose & Crown from the first week in September. Special measures will need to be put in place. At St Anselm's I have calculated that I can safely teach a maximum of 23 people at one time. At the Rose & Crown I believe it would be a maximum of 5.
Being able to only teach 5 at a time at The Rose & Crown and there being no likely change to this situation anytime this year presents me with two problems:
My classes at the Rose & Crown have been run with my heart and not my business head.
It is with regret I know I must either take:-
Option A
Option B
I can't think of any other solutions but I am certainly open to ideas.
Please discuss your thoughts with me.
Option A
For many of you I know this dramatic price increase would be too much. I hope I would not lose you completely.
I would also need you to book for a block of 10 sessions and pay £120 at least 7 days before the start of the course. The good news is that I would be still able to give you holiday entitlement of 2 classes every 6 months and you would be able to do makeup classes via Zoom or at one of my face to face classes on a day that I am not fully booked. I would also have a bank of videos I could send one through to you if you miss a session. Joining the class via Zoom could be possible if you are unable to make your booked class perhaps because of traffic.
By charging £12 a head for a session I can afford my expenses such as room rent, first aid course, CPD training, insurance, music licence, music, hand gel, registration on CIMSPA (used to be Register of exercise professionals), marketing, my website, accountancy fees, anti-bacterial and anti-viral spray, tax etc.
Option B
By hiring a large hall I believe I might be able to teach many of you at the same time and satisfy your desire to see each other and be taught face to face. If the hall hire cost and the number of people wanting to attend was good I would be able to drop the course price. We could even have a car park!
I feel it is important to stay close by to The Rose & Crown. Most of the halls I have contacted have not been able to give me an answer as their staff are off on Furlough. Dartford Masonic hall asked me to call back at the end of July. Christ Church said 'no vacancies'.
I have provisionally booked St Anselm's for Wednesday nights at 8pm till 9pm for September 2020. I would like to run the 2 back to back classes sometime between 5pm and 8pm ideally but beggars can't be choosers.
In order to help me organise what we do next would you be able to tell me whether you would take Option A or B or Neither? Please do not feel shy to tell me you would doing neither. Your honesty will help me to make important business decisions. I do not require explanations :0)
Other Ways You Can Continue to do Lessons with Me...
My current thinking is that there will be a demand for Zoom classes and YouTube videos for a very long time so I have invested in training with Zoom & a tech training coach, a top quality microphone, an interface, a green screen , Ethernet cables, HDMI cable and a TV (so I can analyse your posture & technique quicker) and I still need to buy a new laptop to improve the quality of the video, curtains and lighting and install a few more plug sockets. It is unlikely that I will ever make a profit from YouTube but having the videos done help me to help others more effectively and quickly leaving me more time to learn new skills and care for those who need me now.
You could also do personal training with me.
Details of both are on this link https://www.superjosouthgate.com/zoom-fitness-classes.html.
I now teach 5 Pilates classes a week!!
&
I am still running some fitness classes for FREE this month (July 2020)
see that same link for details
Thank you all for your patience during these uncertain times. You have all been so kind to me. I have put on some classes and done some YouTube videos but I am keenly aware that I haven't catered for everyone.
I am also aware that none of you have taken a refund from me.
To make things simple I would like to give all of you the choice of:-
Taking a refund
In order to process your refund please give me your sort code, account number and the name your account is under and whether your account is a personal or a business account. I owe most of you £34.44 each as I was unable to teach the last 5 sessions of your course.
In case you'd like to check my sums :0)
If you paid for the course without deducting any holiday entitlement you would have paid £62 for 9 sessions. £62 / 9 x 5 = £34.44
All requests for refunds should be sent to me via text message (not Whatsapp or email or Facebook). That way I can't miss them. Refunds will be processed by 30th August providing they are received by 20th August 2020.
Booking eight Zoom classes with me
I am more than happy for those you live with to watch your device and join in the class too. This morning Liz's daughter 'Holly' joined us. It was a delight to have her there. Perhaps you guys can encourage your partners or children to join in sometimes. I am qualified to teach children from age 5. Not all classes would be appropriate for that age group. Please do let me know if you think they will join in.
You could book to do either the Tuesday morning or evening Pilates classes for the following dates:-
7th, 14th, 21st, 28th July and 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th August
Tuesday Pilates classes now run at 11am and 6.15pm. Both for 45 mins unless I talk too much
* * *
Or you could book to do either the Thursday morning or evening Pilates classes for the following dates:-
9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th July and 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th August
Thursday Pilates classes now run at 9am and 6.30pm. Both for 45 mins unless I talk too much
* * *
Or you could book to do the Saturday Pilates classes for the following dates:-
11th, 18th, 25th July and 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th Aug
Saturday Pilates classes now run at 9.45am. For 45 mins unless I talk too much
* * *
Individual Pilates classes can be bought via my website only at a cost of £7 per class.
If you want to do more than one class a week on a regular basis you could purchase the second 8 week course by paying directly to my bank account. If it is:-
Unfortunately I cannot offer 'makeup classes' or 'holiday entitlement' for any Zoom classes missed and that is reflected in my price. I could possibly send you a recording of the lesson I need to look into that as I either need to make sure no one else is on the recording or I need everyone's permission to pass it on. I hope to have that knowledge soon.
For those of you who will be booking one of the courses I will put you on a list of panellists which means that you will be able to have your video and microphone on without me having to push buttons to enable that function for you during class. I will still put everyone on mute during my lesson. After the lesson if any of you want to keep chatting it is possible for me to leave but let you guys have a catch up.
Booking one Personal Training session with me
Most of you have already had a message from me saying...
"Personal training to you guys via Zoom is £35 to anyone else would be £40. I would also only charge you £35 if I can meet you at 10 min walking distance from my home for example at Roseberry gardens."
If you would like to use your £34.44 to book one of these sessions you would be more than welcome to and I'll let you off the 56p.
Leaving your credit on file with me to use at The Rose & Crown or a larger hall.
You are welcome to leave money on file with me and use it when you attend one of my face to face classes or take a refund at a later date once you've discovered what I am definitely doing.
I think one of the aforementioned solutions would be better for you but I will honour your wishes.
I do remember that so many of you told me to keep the money that I owe you. I do not feel I have earned it. Thank you for your very kind offer though. Please would you choose one of the options above?
The most important thing to us all right now is to protect ourselves and the wider community by observing Government and WHO advice. I will stay in touch with you via email and Whatsapp and I'll put regular updates on my website SuperJoSouthgate.com.
When you respond to this email please start a fresh one or text me or give me a call. That way I will not miss it. I will try to read and reply to your messages within two working days. I am cramming in lots of learning and working on my website and I am expecting lots of texts and emails from you all. I do not want to rush my replies but give you all the quality you deserve.
I'm sending my very best wishes to you all and thanking you all from the bottom of my heart for your custom and your friendship.
As I mention earlier one day I hope to have you all back together again at The Rose & Crown. In the meantime hopefully one of these options will suffice and I would love to arrange a couple of 'Zoom Parties' at the end of July so we can get together in our little Pilates groups online and chat with each other.
Love
Jo

Ps. Here is a copy of the most recent government rules:
1. Businesses and venues that must remain closed to members of the public
In line with the government roadmap, on 15 June 2020 significant changes were made to the regulations to ease restrictions on business closures. These changes mean that further businesses and venues can open, in particular non-essential retail.
To reduce social contact, some businesses and venues, including many of those in the leisure and hospitality sectors must remain closed. The full list of business and venues that must remain closed are included in the table below, with exceptions shown in the right-hand column.
Failure to follow the law relating to these closures can lead to the business being issued a prohibition notice or the individual responsible for the business being issued a fixed penalty notice or being prosecuted.
All business and venues that are in operation should follow COVID-19 secure guidelines.
